Scarecrows

The Scarecrows are back

Gunnislake’s scarecrows are set to make a comeback for this year’s festival, which runs from 29th July to 1st August. The scarecrows, from the stunningly surprising to the superbly spectacular, have drawn visitors from far and wide in previous years, including B.B.C. “Spotlight”’s  reporters. Such classics as “Cormoran the Cornish Giant,” who guarded the entrance to Cornwall at Gunnislake Newbridge, have become legends in their own time.

If you want to display your talents and compete for first, second or third prize, to earn a ceramic plaque specially commissioned from well known Albaston potter Rob Fierek, you should have your scarecrow in place by the 1st of July. Use your imagination to choose your own theme, the more original the better.

There will be a special trophy for the junior winner of the scarecrow competition.

Once the scarecrows are in place, a map of the scarecrow route will be made available in Gunnislake Post Office, so that curious locals, incredulous visitors and scarecrow connoisseurs alike can inspect the scarecrows one by one and be dazzled by the skill and ingenuity of their creators. It is an experience not to be missed.
